| The Partnership for Active Communities is a
broad-based coalition of public, private, and community organizations from
around Natomas, that are working together to develop a community that
supports walking and biking and encourages active lifestyles.
The Partnership for Active Communities -
Sacramento, was formed as a result of a 2003
grant
proposal
submitted to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Active Living
by Design Program. It was one of only
25 recipients nationwide.
WalkSacramento serves as
lead
agency, working with other community partners.
The Sacramento Partnership's initial main goals were to:
 |
Increase the number of students walking
and biking to school in the Natomas Unified School District (NUSD), and
|
 |
Create an ongoing review and comment
process on development and transportation projects in the Natomas area. |
| Active Living by Design is a
national program established to create and promote environments that
make it safe and convenient for people to be more physically active. Active Living by Design works to encourage
changes
in design, transportation and policies to cultivate and support a
way of life that integrates physical activity
into daily routines. |
